Li Zhan Ru

(b. 1900 - d. 1977)

Li Zhan Ru was a native of He Shan County, Guangdong Province. His pen name was Yu Weng (Silly Old Man). He was active in 1930s and 1940s. His poems, inscriptions on plaques and art works could be seen all over Kuala Lumpur, in temples, associations’ centres and personal collections. He was one of the pioneer calligraphers and literati in Kuala Lumpur. He had great attainments in poetry and literature, and had frequently participated in events by Nanyang Calligraphy and Painting Association that was established in 1929. Together with his friends, he created poems and fostered networks of friendship, and left behind many masterpieces.
