Peng Shih Lin

(b. 1923 - d. 2004)

Peng Shih Lin, also known by the pen name “Cui Yuan”, was a native of Changsha City, Hunan Province. She came  In 1950, she came to Southeast Asia in 1950 and served as the principle of SMJK Perempuan Perak, Ipoh for 25 years and later taught calligraphy at the Perak Kaying Association. Peng is good at poetry and was once served as the President of the Ipoh Fufeng Poetry Society. Her written books (in Chinese) include the classical poems collection Selected Poems of Ju Cui Yuan; essay collections Ye Chuang Xian Hua and Shu Chuang Xu Yu.

Peng Shih Lin is one of the founders and advisors of the Calligraphy Society of Malaysia. In her early years, she learned the writing styles of Yu Shinan and Chu Suiliang. Her characters are closely organised, lively and implying subtleness. She was well-known as the “lady calligrapher.”
